– A Day of Adventure in Homa Bay

Looking for the best things to do in Homa Bay County? Our one-day eco-adventure to Lake Simbi Nyaima, Abundu Hot Spring, and Homa Hills blended breathtaking scenery, rich culture, and hands-on conservation activities — all in a single trip.

🦩 Lake Simbi Nyaima – The Lake of Legends

We started early from Mbita Town with 15 travelers and joined the Migori Private Bikers in Homa Bay Town. Our first stop was Lake Simbi Nyaima, a volcanic crater lake shrouded in legend. Locals believe it formed when a rejected woman drowned an entire village, creating the lake.

We spotted flamingos, learned about the lake’s healing reputation, and took part in seedball planting to help restore the surrounding ecosystem.

🥚 Abundu Hot Spring – Nature’s Kitchen

Next, we headed to Abundu Hot Spring in Kanam, where naturally heated waters bubble from the ground. We boiled eggs in the spring, prepared fresh kachumbari (tomato-onion salad), and enjoyed a unique outdoor meal together. Before leaving, our group joined in a clean-up activity to keep the site beautiful for future visitors.

🏞 Homa Hills – Hiking & Conservation

Our final stop was the Great Homa Hills, where we met with the Community Forest Association. After discussing ways to strengthen their conservation work, we hiked through scenic trails and explored hidden caves.

With support from Seedballs Kenya, we donated and planted indigenous seeds before enjoying a hearty local lunch of fish, chicken, ugali, githeri, and spiced tea at our host’s home.

🌱 Why This Trip Matters

This wasn’t just sightseeing — it was eco-tourism with impact. We connected with local communities, supported conservation, and experienced the true beauty of Homa Bay.

If you’re planning a trip to Kenya’s Lake Victoria region, don’t miss the chance to explore Lake Simbi Nyaima, Abundu Hot Spring, and Homa Hills.

📌 Join our next eco-adventure and be part of travel that gives back.
